Balm Base:

This simple base does not require an emulsifier as there is no water to be mixed. Balms are oil based and therefore do not have a creamy texture.  This will set hard and can last up to 6 months if stored in an airtight jar.

The recipe below will make a 100 g or 3.5 oz formula.

What you will need:

8 g /2 tsp beeswax (granules or grated)

45 ml /3 tbsp almond oil

15 ml/1 tbsp wheat germ oil

10 ml/2 tsp herbal tincture (please sees other pages on how to make your own tinctures and macerated oils).

5 drops of essential oil

Saucepan

Dark glass container

What to do:

Heat the beeswax and almond oil in a bowl over a saucepan of boiling water until the wax has melted.

Add the wheat germ oil and tincture and gently stir everything together.  Remove from the heat and allow cooling slightly.

Add the essential oils and mix thoroughly.

Pour into a dark glass container to set.
